For the majority of our standard skin cancer screenings, spot checks, acne or rosacea consults, and aesthetic laser therapies, no referral is needed. You can book directly with our team. However, to access our specialised Geriatric Medicine consultants (Dr Joe Hu and Dr Steven Leonard), a valid referral from your regular General Practitioner (GP) is required under Australian healthcare frameworks.

Western Skin Institute operates as a private billing medical facility, and payment is required at the time of your consultation. Standard medical consultations for skin cancer screening, general surgery assessments, and chronic skin path diagnoses attract competitive Medicare rebates for valid cardholders. Specialised cosmetic procedures, thread lifts, and laser treatments are privately billed without rebates. A transparent, upfront estimate of costs and out of pocket gaps will always be provided prior to any procedure.

Yes, absolutely. Every medical practitioner operating within our facilities is fully registered with Ahpra (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and practises in strict accordance with the Medical Board of Australia's guidelines. All therapeutic devices, medical injectables, skin analytics software, and laser platforms utilised within our clinics—including the K Laser Blue Derma and HEINE Cube system—are fully approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) for safety and clinical efficacy.

We request that all new patients arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time to complete their comprehensive medical registration forms. If you are booking for a full body skin check, please ensure you do not wear makeup (especially tinted foundation) or dark nail polish, as this allows our independent doctors to perform an uninterrupted, microscopically accurate dermoscopic evaluation of your skin.
